The event took place on Fathers Day, Sunday 15th June 2008 and was in aid of
The British Heart Foundation.
A mixed team of ladies and gents set off from Cannons, Milton site in Oxfordshire at 6:15am after loading their bikes and themselves into the van.
Our driver for the day Dennis, was soon ticking off the miles as we headed towards Clapham Common, South London.
On arrival we assembled our bikes, with the assistance of Chris (our only true cyclist in the team) and prepared ourselves for the 54 mile journey to Brighton. Making sure we had our drink bottles full (with water or high energy drinks) and enough bananas to go around for that added extra energy.
Donna was making sure everyone was being protected from the anticipated heat of the day, as she passed around the factor 30 sun cream.
We queued at the start gate for our alloted start time of 9:30am and enjoyed the friendly banter between other weird and wonderfully dressed teams.
9:37am and we were off, with everybody soaking up the atmosphere of 1,000's of cyclists heading for Brighton.
With plenty of hills to negotiate we pressed on, passing through villages with carnival atmospheres and supporting the riders with free water and even biscuits and chocolate bars from one of the local churches.
Ditchling Beacon, the last major hill before Brighton was tough and many had to walk this section but for Chris and Richard of Team Cannon, who made it all the way on their bikes.
Once at the top, the last 5 miles or so was all down hill into Brighton, where we all received a much needed bottle of water and a medal as we crossed the finish line.
